The New Brunswick Innovation Foundation has opened applications for Breakthru, the province’s main startup pitching competition that will award more than $300,000 in investment and in-kind services.

As well as the competition, Breakthru is a four-month program designed to help early-stage entrepreneurs develop technology startups and prepare for investment. It includes practical learning, mentorship, pitch development and opportunities to connect with investors and other members of the startup community.

Participants will work with experienced mentors and advisors to develop their business ideas, build startup skills and refine their opportunities before presenting at the Breakthru Finale in March.

More than $300,000 in potential equity investment and in-kind prizes will be available through the competition, subject to due diligence and investment approval requirements, NBIF said in a news release Monday.

“Breakthru helps entrepreneurs take that next step,” said Jeff White, NBIF’s president and CEO. “It’s an opportunity to learn, challenge assumptions, build valuable connections, and accelerate the journey from idea to company.”

The competition is open to eligible entrepreneurs across New Brunswick. NBIF said it will conduct outreach throughout the province and provide partner engagement and bilingual support during the recruitment process.
